Why You Should Choreograph Your First Dance

Video Transcript

Hey guys, my name’s Dalton Young, an award-winning wedding filmmaker, and photographer. And I want to break down really quick something that most brides don’t think about. And that’s having your first dance choreographed.

Now, if you take a step back and think about you’re getting married, you’re having your first dance. A lot of people, just go into it, right? And here’s what ends up happening. Unless you have taken dance lessons or done a lot of dancing in your lifetime, chances are you’re going to get out on the dance floor and dance like you did in middle school or high school, or it just may not… I’m not saying that it’s bad. It just… you can really bring life to your video and photos when you take the time to actually learn either how to dance or a specific dance, specifically for your wedding day that’s unique to you.

Not only does it tell us a story, not only is it a great bonding experience between you and your partner, but the biggest thing is to think about the spinning and the dips. Knowing how to dip, knowing how to spin, and following certain patterns and movements can really add motion, not only to you but also to your dress and to other things around you. And really wow your guests to get an even better reaction out of them. So it has more than just an impact on the dance itself, it impacts the whole film and the way people react and the smiles and the laughter and the cheers. So at the end of the day, choreographing your dance is something that most brides don’t think about. And then they see their wedding film, and they may not be as happy as their wedding film about their dancing in the wedding film, as they thought they would’ve been.

So consider choreographing your next dance. You can find somewhere local in your area to help you learn how to do the dance, or you can hire somebody privately, locally to come into your home. Or I’ve seen a lot of people, especially during COVID, who have actually gone online and found people that helped them choreograph their dance. These dance studios do virtual consulting and virtual dancing. And you learn in the comfort of your own home. And like I said, the impact it has on your film, it just really transforms your film, brings it to life, and really impresses people. That’s the biggest thing. When you show your family members or show your kids or your grandkids one day, you may want them to be wowed. And instead of just seeing mom and dad move back and forth like they did in school, they actually see the elegance and the movements and the swirls and the dress spinning and things like that really accentuate the dress, the atmosphere, the vibe, and really just bring life to your film. So consider getting it choreographed. And if you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
